ONLINE EDUCATION PLAN FOR BIG SANDY CTC

History

  • Voted on by Big Sandy Faculty December 2020
  • Began July 1, 2021
  • Applies to fully online courses.

Steps:

  • When an online course is developed, the faculty member will notify his/her supervisor and the chair of the distance learning committee.
  • Each faculty member new to online education will be assigned a mentor from the Distance Learning Team.
  • Faculty members will use the quality assurance rubric (BlackBoard Exceptional Course) to complete a self-evaluation of their course.
  • A member of the distance learning committee will be assigned to review the self-evaluation and complete an evaluation of the online course.
  • After the evaluation, the faculty member and the evaluator will discuss any questions and points that might need clarification.
  • Both the self-evaluation and the evaluation and notes of these meetings will be scanned as a PDF and sent to the chair of the distance learning committee. These documents will be maintained as SACSCOC documentation.
  • All courses will be reviewed in a 3-year cycle. After the initial review in 2021, 1/3 of the courses will be reviewed each year for three years to get on cycle. This will provide an opportunity for improvements to be made incrementally and avoid the burden of massive overhauls.
  • In the first review, a course would need to score 75% on the rubric to be offered online.

SECOND REVIEW

In the review cycle, a course would need to improve to a score of 85% to continue to be offered online
