Getting Started

Step One: Topic

In POL101 all students must choose a topic and get it approved.  

  • Each topic can be only chosen by one student in each class.  First come, first choice. 
  • No biographies.  If you choose a person, then you must choose an issue/event and not do a biography. 

Step Two: Review Requirements

  • Paper must be in MLA format.
  • Paper must include a MLA formatted Works Cited Page with four sources. Three sources on the works cited page must be retrieved from library databases.  One source may be a plain website. 
  • Do not use Wikipedia as a source. It is an automatic deduction of 30 points. 
  • Paper must be minimum of three typed pages. 
  • Paper should be written in third person. 

Presentation:

  • Presentation must be 3-5 minutes long. 
  • The last slide must include your works cited page. 
  • Presentation must include visuals and your voice. 

Step Three:  Complete Research

  • Use the library databases in this library guide to research your topic. 
  • Create your works cited page using MyBib. 
  • Do No use Wikipedia. 
  • Only one Website can be used as a source. All other sources must be from library resources. 

Step Four: Write your draft.


Step Five: Submit your rough draft to the ACE Center for review. This is a service offered by the college and your paper will be edited and returned to you. 


Step Six: Do your corrections and submit the final paper within our Blackboard POL101 course shell. 


MLA Format Reviewed

MLA Format Reviewed:

  • Times New Roman 12 Point Font
  • Heading for paper should include:
    • Student Name
    • Professor's Name
    • English 101
    • Date 13 April 2017
    • Page number and the student's last name should be included in the header on the right hand side top of the page.
