Final Project

The final project will be a Critical Response or an Analysis with research.

Criteria:

  1. The paper must be a minimum of 3 full (all the way to the bottom) pages and should not exceed 5 pages. 3-5 pages.
  2. MLA formatting using in-text citations and a Works Cited page.
  3. Third person writing ONLY.
  4. 1-2 credible sources that speak to the literary elements of the piece (not quotes).

Choose one of the following pieces to respond critically or analyze:

  • 2-3 songs/poems from Ritual Poetry, Song, and Ceremony
  • The Apparition of the Virgin of Guadalupe in 1531 from New Spain
  • The Jesuit Relations from New France
  • Any Anne Bradstreet (poems 2-3) from New England 
  • Mary Rowlandson or Cotton Mather from New England
  • Olaudah Equiano from Contested Visions, American Voices
  • Phyllis Wheatley from Contested Visions, American Voices
  • Hannah Webster Foster from Contested Visions, American Voices
  • Sarah Margaret Fuller from The Cultures of New England
  • Frederick Douglass from Race, Slavery, and the Invention of the "South"
  • Harriet Ann Jacobs from Race, Slavery, and the Invention of the "South"
