A periodical is a publication that is published regularly, like a magazine or a newspaper.

What is the Peer-Review Process?

Peer-Review is the process by which an article is selected for publication. When an article is submitted to a peer-reviewed publication, it must be reviewed by a panel of experts.These individuals (peers) have education and experience similar to the author. They are qualified to determine if the article is accurate, timely, and adds to the current knowledge of the topic.
