Your Outcome for the Songs Projects

Dancing Through the Decades

In History 109, you will be assigned a decade from the 1910's to the 2000s. You will work throughout the semesters to highlight to your classmates the major events of each year while also creating your own music soundtrack to accompany those events.

You will meet four times in the library to conduct research. During each research session you will research 2 or 3 years of your decade.

    1. In research trip 1, you will research the first two years of your decade. (1910-1911, for example.)
    2. In research trip 2, you will research the next three years of your decade. (1912-1914, for example)
    3. In research trip 3, you will research the next three years of your decade. (1915-1917, for example)
    4. In research trip 4, you will research the last two years of your decade. (1918-1919, for example)

After each research trip, before a unit exam, you will  create a powerpoint for the assigned years for the class. The powerpoint will include three important events per year, and each event will have a song choice that you share with the class as well. The music should be contemporary to the period, preferably something (when possible) that would originate in that year. Check the class calendar for specific dates.

After the timeline presentation, you will turn in a written copy of your presentation that explains three things:

  1. Why you chose those events
  2. Why you chose those songs
  3. Where  you found your information.

At the end of the semester, you will collect all of your events for the decade, and narrow them down to one event, and song, per year. You will then write a 3-5 page paper with at least 3 sources. The paper should

  1. Explain what each event is, why it’s important/why you chose it
  2. Give the song for the year, why it’s important/why you chose it.
