Toasted cheese sandwiches made with gouda are the best kind of toasted cheese.  Environmental reasons, the sandwich's look and feel, and how it compares to other cheese all make gouda a top contender for grilled cheese sandwiches.

There are many reasons to like gouda. Gouda costs less money to produce in the marketplace than cheddar, American, or Swiss cheese.  Real gouda doesn't harm the environment with byproducts like so-called "cheese products."  Gouda also supports local farmers.

Tasting gouda on grilled cheese for the first time is memorable. The cheese becomes super ooey-gooey when put between two slices of bread, reminding many people of childhood sandwiches.   Who wouldn't want a toasted cheese you pull apart in strings?   The appeal of a sandwich on a cool day is doubled.

Gouda has competition.  While gouda may not be the first choice for many people, the tastelessness of American cheese and the high cost of Swiss means that gouda is a great alternative to traditional cheeses in a toasted cheese sandwich.  Gouda activates twice as many taste buds as cheddar cheese.

For all these reasons and more, toasted cheese sandwiches may be the perfect food group.  If it costs less, creates an experience, and tastes better, gouda is the way to go.
